Self-esteem is a critical aspect of our lives as Christians. It is the foundation of who we are and how we see ourselves. As a Christian social media influencer, I believe that our self-esteem should come from our relationship with God and the value He places on us, not from external factors like our looks, abilities, or achievements.
In the world we live in today, social media often perpetuates the idea that our worth is determined by the number of likes, followers, and comments we receive. This can lead to a distorted view of self and low self-esteem. It’s important to remember that these external sources of validation are temporary and will never fulfill us in the way that God can.
In the Bible, we see countless examples of people who had a strong sense of self-worth because they knew who they were in Christ. David, for example, was a man after God’s own heart, even though he faced many challenges in life. David’s self-worth was rooted in his relationship with God and the knowledge that God had a plan for his life.
It’s crucial that we remind ourselves daily of the truth found in scripture, such as “You are fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) and “We are God’s masterpiece, created anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10). These verses remind us that we are unique, valuable, and loved by …od, no matter what the world may say.
Building a strong sense of self-esteem can also come from serving others and using our gifts and talents for God’s glory. As we serve and give of ourselves, we begin to see our worth and purpose in a new light. Our self-esteem becomes less dependent on external validation and more rooted in the knowledge that we are children of God and have been created for a purpose.
So anyways, as Christians, our self-esteem should come from our relationship with God and the value He places on us. We must resist the temptation to look to external sources for validation and instead focus on the truth found in scripture. By serving others and using our gifts and talents for God’s glory, we can build a strong sense of self-esteem and fulfill the purpose for which we were created.
